Silver Dollar City

An award-winning theme park that celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2010, Silver Dollar City transports visitors back to the 1880s and features 30 thrilling rides and attractions, 50 lives shows daily, 60 specialty shops and restaurants, and seven annual festivals. Kids of all ages will enjoy Silver Dollar City’s amazing themed rides and attractions. In addition, sensational shows full of lively music and entertainment take place throughout the day at Silver Dollar City. Don’t miss the opportunity to watch talented artists and craftspeople at work such as blacksmiths, glassblowers, potters, basket weavers, quilters and more.

Approximately 40,000 people attended Silver Dollar City’s 50th-Anniversary Weekend, which was held April 30 – May 2, 2010. Featured performers at the High Noon Birthday Bash, which took place in the 4,200-seat Echo Hollow Amphitheater, included Louise Mandrell, The Haygoods, the Lennon Sisters and the Blues Brothers from Legends in Concert. In a U.S. House Resolution affirmed by the U.S. Senate, Silver Dollar City was proclaimed “The Home of American Craftsmanship.” In addition, Missouri Governor Jay Nixon issued a proclamation declaring May 1, 2010, Silver Dollar City Day. Approximately 65 million people have visited Silver Dollar City since the theme park first opened its doors on May 1, 1960.

Silver Dollar City Rides & Attractions

American Plunge (Seasonal) – A traditional log flume ride, American Plunge lets you splash down five stories at speeds up to 35 miles per hour! Minimum height requirement: 34 inches.

Fire-In-The-Hole – This high-speed indoor coaster features thrilling drops and turns with surprises around every corner. Minimum height requirement: 36 inches.

The Flooded Mine – Take a zany boat ride through The Flooded Mine and help a warden round up his prisoners with a little “arcade-style shoot-out fun.”

Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train – Take a fun-filled, 20-minute train ride aboard the Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train and watch out for train robbers!

Geyser Gulch – Kids will love Geyser Gulch, the “World’s Largest Treehouse,” a three-story playground full of swinging bridges, towers and erupting geysers.

The Giant Swing – Two huge pendulum arms swing back and forth as you soar more than seven stories in the air aboard The Giant Swing. Minimum height requirement – 48 inches.

The Grand Exposition – Ten family rides can be found in The Grand Exposition, including Magnificent Wave Carousel, Mighty Galleon, Electro Spin, Grand Exposition Coaster, Racing Regatta, Elephant March, Royal Tea Party, Wings of Wonder, The Ladybugs and Happy Frogs. Height requirements vary.

Grandfather’s Mansion – An amazing funhouse, Grandfather’s Mansion features “slanting floors, mirrored walls and dizzying effects.”

Lost River of the Ozarks – Prepare to get soaked as you race down the Lost River of the Ozarks full of “numerous turns, twists and drops.” Minimum height requirement: 36 inches.

Marvel Cave – A National Natural Landmark, Marvel Cave was first opened to the public in the last 1800s. Silver Dollar City’s entrance was built around the cave. Sixty-minute tours of Marvel Cave depart approximately every half hour. One of the many highlights of the tour is the Cathedral Room, the largest cave entrance room in the country.

McHaffie’s Homestead – Step back into the past and visit an 1880’s Ozark homestead on the Silver Dollar City Square. McHaffie’s Homestead is an authentic “saddlebag” log cabin that allows you to explore life in the Ozark Mountains in the 1800s.

Oak Trail School – Visit this one-room schoolhouse and get a feel for school life in the Ozark Mountains during the 1880s.

PowderKeg – Take a thrilling roller coaster adventure aboard the PowderKeg, which launches from zero to 53 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds! Minimum height requirement – 42 inches.

Thunderation – A runaway mine train ride, Thunderation features an 80-foot-tall roller coaster that provides spectacular views of the Ozark Mountains.

Tom & Huck’s RiverBlast – New for 2010 and billed as “America’s Biggest Water Battle,” Tom & Huck’s RiverBlast features a super-soaking water raft ride themed around the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn! Minimum height requirement: 48 inches.

Wilderness Church – An authentic log cabin church, this structure was originally built in 1849 on Bear Creek, dismantled and moved to Silver Dollar City where it was rebuilt at its present location in 1960.

Wildfire – A “high-flying, multi-looping, cobra-rolling coaster,” Wildfire reaches speeds up to 66 miles per hour! Minimum height requirement: 52 inches.

Cajun Connection – A lively salute to the music of Louisiana, Cajun Connection features Louisiana Music Hall of Fame member Cedric Benoit and the Cajun Connection Band. Cajun Connection takes place during National KidsFest between June 5 and August 8, 2010 (no shows on Thursdays and Fridays).

Championship Cloggers – For more than 20 years, the Championship Cloggers have appeared at National KidsFest and they return for the 2010 event between June 5 and August 7, 2010.

Choctaw Charlie’s Frontier Follies – A zany Wild West comedy, Choctaw Charlie’s Frontier Follies takes place in the Silver Dollar Saloon with five shows daily until October 30, 2010.

Chris Perondi’s Stunt Dog Experience – Thrill to the talented acrobatics of stunt dogs as they perform tricks and skits during this incredible stage show, which takes place during National KidsFest (June 5 through August 8, 2010; no shows on Tuesdays).

GAC Nights in Echo Hollow – Great American Country (GAC) and Silver Dollar City present GAC Nights in Echo Hollow, a live stage version of the immensely popular TV show.

Homestead Pickers – Visit McHaffie’s Homestead, an authentic 1880’s Ozark homestead, and listen to the wonderful old-time tunes of the Homestead Pickers as they perform on the front porch.

Horsecreek Band – Enjoy traditional country, bluegrass, Western and gospel music from the highly talented Horsecreek Band.

The Magic of Peter Gossamer – One of the world’s greatest illusionists, Peter Gossamer, takes the stage at National KidsFest at the Opera House June 5 through August 8, 2010 (no shows on Sundays).

Pure Heart – Enjoy the rich melodies of Pure Heart as the lively trio takes the stage at Boatworks Theater during National KidsFest between June 5 and August 8, 2010 (no shows on Mondays and Tuesdays).

Sons of the Silver Dollar – This incredibly talented trio are known as Silver Dollar City’s “resident cowpokes” and they will perform at Boatworks Theater during National KidsFest between June 5 and August 8, 2010 (no shows on Wednesdays and Thursdays).

Street Troupe – These hilarious entertainers with their sidesplitting antics return to Silver Dollar City Square for National KidsFest between June 5 and August 8, 2010.

World-Fest (Wednesdays through Sundays, April 8 – May 9, 2010) – Presented by Humana, Silver Dollar City’s immensely popular international festival features Fiery Fiddles, Trinidad Drums & Dance Show, Zhejiang Balancing Monks, Calpulli Danza Mexicana, Russian Academic Band, Los Pampas Gauchos from Argentina, Ecuador Manta and much more! World-Fest also offers Tastes of the World, where visitors can feast on global cuisine such as Ecuadorian skillets, Mexican carnitas, Greek salads and Irish stew.

Bluegrass & BBQ (May 13-31, 2010) – Enjoy a “feast for the senses” at 2010 Bluegrass & BBQ, “America’s premier bluegrass festival.” Scheduled performers include nine-time International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Female Vocalist of the Year Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, IBMA superstars Dailey & Vincent, 2006 and 2007 IBMA Entertainer of the Year The Grascals and IBMA Guitar Player of the Year Josh Williams, among others. National KidsFest (June 5 – August 8, 2010) – Billed as “America’s Biggest KidsFest,” the 2010 National KidsFest at Silver Dollar City features Tom & Huck’s RiverBlast (the centerpiece of the festival!), Chris Perondi’s Stunt Dog Experience, The Magic of Peter Gossamer, Kid Concoctions Activity Center, Moonlight Madness (July 24 – August 8, 2010), Birthday Cake Eating Contests, and meet and greet opportunities with SpongeBob & Patrick, Shaggy and Scooby Doo, The Jetsons, The Flintstones and the Backyardigans.

Southern Gospel Picnic (August 26 – September 6, 2010) – The 2010 Southern Gospel Picnic at Silver Dollar City features some of the top names in contemporary and traditional gospel such as The Kingsmen, The Perrys, Jeff & Sheri Easter, The Isaacs, Karen Peck and New River, The Booth Brothers, The Inspirations, Squire Parsons, Legacy Five and the Reggie Saddler Family. Southern Gospel Picnic concerts take place in the Echo Hollow Amphitheater.

National Harvest Festival (Wednesdays through Sundays, September 11 – October 30, 2010) – Known as “The Home of American Craftsmanship,” Silver Dollar City presents the annual National Harvest Festival, which features talented craftspeople and authentic harvest-time foods. Highlights of the 2010 National Harvest Festival include the Craft in America Exhibit, Craftmen’s Reunion Showcase, demonstrating craftspeople from the Ozark Folk Center, Best of Missouri Hands juried artists, Caricature Carvers of America Showcase, Learn-Hot-To-Do-It-Yourself Craft Workshops, the award-winning musical Headin’ West and Missouri’s Largest Barn Dance.

An Old Time Christmas (Thursdays through Sundays, November 6 – December 30, 2010) – Ranked as one of the world’s top holiday events, An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City features the amazing Christmas on Main Street with more than one million lights and Christmas music, A Dickens Christmas Carol, The Living Nativity, Frosty (interactive musical show), The Holiday Light Parade and The Silver Dollar City Sing-Along Steam Train. An Old Time Christmas is open Thursdays through Sundays plus November 24 and December 22, and closed December 24 and 25.
